Dr. Adam Cieplinski is a Research Assistant and Snail Facility Lead at the Natural History Museum, London, where he specialises in the maintenance and study of snail stages in parasite life cycles. Prior to his current role, he obtained Post Graduate Certificate in Education in the UK and served as a Project Coordinator and Interactive Gallery Supervisor at the Copernicus Science Centre in Warsaw, Poland.
Adam’s work experience, combined with his MSc and PhD in freshwater ecology and taxonomy, form a strong background in scientific research, education, and public engagement. Adam currently works in the Wellcome Trust–funded Schistosome and Snail Resource project, applying his expertise in aquaculture, ecology, and laboratory management to improve our understanding of Schistosomiasis.
His recent contributions include the digitisation of historical shell collections to develop an online catalogue of schistosomiasis vector snails as well as applying photogrammetry for creating digital shell models.
Dr. Adam Cieplinski will be speaking at the Digital Collections Summit 2026 :
Discover how museum collections are transforming global health!
This project digitises the London Natural History Museum’s African snail collection, producing high-resolution 3D models of Schistosoma vector species. The resulting digital catalogue, available via Sketchfab, supports accurate snail identification, enhances malacological training, and aids surveillance in endemic regions. The presentation will outline the methodology, including micro-CT scanning, 3D printing, and animation, and discuss its broader applications for museum collections, education, and public engagement.
