Workshops

The day before the MuseumNext Digital Summit we are hosting two expert run workshops which delegates can choose to attend for an addition fee.

Hannah Hethmon will delve into creating a winning Podcast for your Museum, while Wouter van der Horst will share the YouTube strategies that have worked for him at Rijksmuseum.

Both workshops will take place at Lloyd Hotel on 24th October 2019.

Museum Podcasting Workshop

9am – 12pm
24th October 2019

Podcasts have been a favourite platform for intimately engaging an audience for ten years, but recently they have exploded in growth growth and creativity. Museums can leverage the power of the platform reach their audiences and communicate in creative, intimate, and meaningful ways. This workshop will guide participants through every aspect of in-house podcast production, from choosing a topic to editing to marketing the show.

The workshop will be led by Hannah Hethmon, producer of the award-winning podcast Museums in Strange Places and author of Your Museum Needs a Podcast. Through a combination of lecture, discussion, and practical hands-on training, participants will be empowered to embark on a podcast project at their institution or personally. Participants will have the chance to record a mock-interview and will spend at least one hour learning how to use Hindenburg Journalist to edit audio.

No podcasting or audio editing experience is necessary.

You will need to bring a laptop to this workshop to get the most out of it.

Museum YouTube Strategy Workshop

Every museum has one: a YouTube channel. In general, these channels are often used as an archive for all sorts of video content, mainly marketing videos focussed on getting people to your museum. But how can you truly transfer meaningful museum experiences to this medium? And what can your institution learn from the success of tutorials & video essays, two of the most popular YouTube genres out there?

In this workshop Wouter van der Horst, former Educator Digital Learning at the Rijksmuseum and founder of We Share Culture, will take you on a deep dive into YouTube by focusing on the Rijksmuseum’s two new YouTube Channels and other inspiring examples.

After learning from these successful YouTube Strategies, Wouter will help you to outline and conceptualise your own institution’s YouTube Strategy.
