Opportunities for students and young museum professionals

MuseumNext London — 3 – 5 June 2019
Make change happen

MuseumNext is an international conference series on the future of museums.

Since 2008 we have held conferences in cultural capitals around the world to look at best practice today to shine a light on the museum of tomorrow.

In June 2019, MuseumNext will return to London with a three-day conference focused on making change happen.

Over the past decade we have been inspired by presentations about the positive change in museums around the world, but why are some institutions able to change direction while others struggle to implement new ideas?

How do we make change happen?

Call for Speaker

We are looking for speakers for MuseumNext London who have made change happen in museums and with museums.

We want to hear how you made a big idea reality, how you overcame obstacles or how you persuaded your boss or your board to try something different.

What are the tools and techniques that worked for you and if it didn’t work, what could you have done differently?

The focus should very much be on the journey you took to make change happen rather than the end result.

At the end of the conference, we want delegates to leave not just with inspiration, but with practical tools and advice that can help them to lead change in their organizations.

Your presentation could touch on:

– How to make organizational change happen?
– Partnerships making change possible
– Overcoming fear of failure to make change happen
– Changing perceptions inside and outside the museum
– Overcoming obstacles to make change happen in your community
– We tried and failed, but here’s what we learned
– How we made digital change happen?
– Overcoming objections from management/board
– How to be open to change?

Or perhaps you have your own interpretation of the theme ‘Making Change Happen’.

As with every MuseumNext, we’re interested in real-life examples from those working across the museum sector rather than theoretical presentations.

MuseumNext presentations are just 20 minutes, with just one speaker per presentation.

Proposals for MuseumNext London should be submitted through this Google form by January 15th, 2019.

Proposals should contain a title, name of the presenter, a summary of the themes to be addressed, relevant links as well as a description of the expected learning outcomes.

All proposals are reviewed by an international peer panel, with all those who submit a proposal hearing the result of their deliberations by February 20th, 2019.

Conference speakers will receive free tickets for the event, but we, unfortunately, can’t cover travel or hotel expenses.
