Welcome to the Funhouse
Scott Stulen is an artist, DJ and curator, but perhaps his most subversive act is becoming the director of the Philbrook Museum of Art. Stulen built his career on creating unexpected platforms for social interaction, audience engagement and connecting diverse audiences. Things like cat video festivals and low-rider picnics, motel concerts and garden camp-outs.
Stulen will talk about how he is transforming a mid-size, non-coastal American museum by taking strategic risks, listening to audience needs and not taking himself so seriously. He will share simple lessons on how lasting change can be made with limited resources, and how social impact in the community can be achieved and measured.
Museum as cultural commons, rock club, garden party — yet still an intimate setting for art.
