Archive Digital Development Lead

Historic England have an exciting new opportunity for a Archive Digital Development Lead to join us as a key member of the Archive Engagement and Projects Team. If you are seeking a role where you have the opportunity to identify and implement improvements to our existing systems and lead on the acquisition and integration of a replacement Digital Asset Management system, then this is the role for you.

As a member of the Historic England Archive you will ensure that the content, assets and collections in the Archive are shared in accessible, inspiring and engaging ways with a diverse range of audiences.

This is a 2-year fixed term contract.

We are flexible on location – based in one of our offices or home working. We will consider hybrid working where you are working in both the office and home.

What you will be doing:

In this new role you will play a key role in ensuring maximum impact, availability and usability of our assets, through delivering and supporting improvements to existing Collections Management systems and through digital transformation of the archive technical infrastructure.

You will act as first point of contact for the Collections Management systems in the Archive, investigating operational needs or problems and collaborating with users on solutions, raising Business Change Requests and escalating issues to IMT and external suppliers as necessary.

Working in partnership with the Head of Archive, and supported by appropriate members of Archive staff and in collaboration with IMT and Digital Teams, develop a technical roadmap for Archive systems to support the Archive Strategy and Vision and Purpose
You will be responsible for working with IMT and Digital teams and where required, instruct third party development partners on the design and delivery of IT solutions, co-ordinating cross-team working as necessary.
You will have the opportunity to research and report on new technologies that have the potential to improve the current solutions in terms of efficiency and service satisfaction, along with ways to measure this satisfaction.

Who we are looking for:

  • Strong IT systems experience and business exposure, particularly within an Archives or collections environment
  • Proven experience of managing and implementing Collections Management systems specifically in the collections, Archives or museums sector
  • Experience of implementing or maintaining Digital Asset Management systems specifically in the collections, Archives or museums sector
  • Excellent written communication skills, able to tailor information to audience (user, technical and management)
  • Able to effectively plan and organise projects
