You will be responsible for the management, development, and promotion of Towneley Hall; a (grade 1 listed) historic house, museum and art gallery, which is located in 200 hectares of historic parkland close to the centre of Burnley. The Hall holds an eclectic collection of fine & decorative arts, furniture, natural & local history and is a venue for exhibitions, weddings and other events.
The vacancy is due to the retirement of the current manager and comes at a time when the hall is undergoing a programme of major repairs that are due to complete in late 2024 (during which the hall will be partially open). This provides opportunities for a new manager to draw up a 5-year development & business plan and prepare for a full re-opening of the Hall in spring 2025.
You must have experience in management of museum/arts/heritage facilities, together with experience of managing staff & volunteers and budgets. You must also demonstrate an ability to attract audiences, generate and manage income, secure grant funding and be able to manage events, exhibitions and other activities and to build partnerships with stakeholders and other organisations. You should also be able to work weekends (one in 3 or 4).
The post is a permanent full-time position (36.25 hrs per week). The Council offers generous holidays and family friendly policies and will consider part-time arrangements.
