MuseumNext — 2015

Indianapolis, USA

The first North American edition of MuseumNext took place in September 2015 hosted by the Indianapolis Museum of Art (IMA). More than 250 delegates attended from North America and further afield including Australia, Tibet, Brazil, the Netherlands and the UK for two days of presentations, networking and inspiration.

Cultural venues in Indianapolis including the Indiana State Museum, The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis and the Eiteljorg Museum opened their doors to delegates who eagerly took part in all the activities on offer, including a lunchtime serenade by a university choir, guided tours of the IMA gardens, and an outdoor evening event in the shadow of Roy Lichtenstein’s Five Brushstrokes amongst many others.

Stand out presentations included Nina Simon’s Fighting For Inclusion, Shelley Bernstein’s Exploring ASK Brooklyn Museum, Adam Rozan’s Don’t Touch the Artwork, Ravon Ruffin’s Mining The Digital Landscape, Engaging Communities of Color and Matt Solari’s Creating The Inclusive Museum Through Storytelling.

Seema Rao, Director, Intergenerational Learning at Cleveland Museum of Art said, “This conference blends intellectual rigour and honest conversations, all in an incredibly warm, inclusive environment. It is my favourite museum conference.”

“We are really pleased delegates enjoyed our first conference in North America, the IMA was an amazing venue and fabulous host and we can’t thank them enough for inviting us. We are looking forward to establishing the conference as an annual event in the US in conjunction with host venues. We are in discussions with a couple of cultural organisations at the moment, more details will follow soon!” said Kala Preston, MuseumNext Director, who joined the team earlier this year.
