Alex Boyd

Alex Boyd is the Project Coordinator for the ‘Unlocking North East Jewish Heritage’ Project and is responsible for delivering the UNEJH project, including overseeing a digitisation programme and developing content for the ‘Unlocking North East Jewish Heritage’ platform. Alex has extensive museum and heritage project experience including managing exhibitions, curatorial projects, learning and community engagement.

Digitising Stories Beyond Our Walls

How can we make complex community stories accessible? What happens when those stories exist in sprawling physical locations, kept within family oral storytelling, or buried deep in the Archives? We believe digital holds the answer to drawing these threads together; every person has a right to unlock these stories – wherever you happen to be.   Our Unlocking North East Jewish Heritage project digitises previously less accessible archival materials, and maps physical locations with oral histories onto a location based online platform. We will explore what happens when you lead a digital project that aims to capture the stories of disappearing communities.
