Fresh ideas from museums around the globe in your inbox each week
Anna Grybenyuk is the digitisation project officer at the Scottish Fisheries Museum in Anstruther, Scotland. Anna graduated with an MLitt in Museum and Gallery Studies from the University of St Andrews, and since then has worked on both physical and digital collections ranging from the medical to the maritime.
Anna’s goal to bring out hidden stories in collections and get audiences to feel passionate about things they would not expect to find exciting. When not working, she can be found wandering the Fife coast looking for birds and boats.
Long Lines to Online
The Scottish Fisheries Museum holds a collection of 13,000 images relating to the fishing heritage of Britain, spanning over a century. It is recognised as a resource of national significance. However, until recently, it was held on-site at the museum without easy access. A grant from the Digital Innovation and Engagement Fund was given to the museum in 2021 to bring it online and facilitate remote volunteers to help catalogue it. In this presentation, Anna, the digitisation project officer in charge, will discuss the challenges of this project and digitising in a smaller museum with fewer resources.
