Beyond 3D Models: Creating a Memory Twin for Malta’s Ġgantija Archaeological Park

What if a 3D model could preserve not just a monument, but everything we know about it? This presentation explores how Heritage Malta transformed the UNESCO-listed Ġgantija megalithic structure into a pioneering ‘Memory Twin’, a digital environment that embeds archaeology, conservation, research, storytelling and cultural memory. Moving beyond simple digitisation, the project demonstrates how enriched 3D models can become platforms for collaboration, knowledge preservation and public engagement. Technology and Experience Development Head Anthony Cassar shares insights into building knowledge-rich digital heritage ecosystems and shows how Memory Twins lay the groundwork for immersive experiences and the future of cultural heritage stewardship.
