Dr Antje Schmidt is Head of Digital Strategy at the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg (MK&G) and has worked with digital cultural heritage for 15 years.
In her work she focuses on how to make the holdings of museums more accessible, reusable and relevant for different audiences and machines. In 2015 with the launch of the first collection online she established an open access policy at the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg – the first one in a German art museum and the core of the ever evolving digital strategy of the museum.
In her current role as head of digital strategy she is a catalyst for the digital transformation of the MK&G and aims at enabling and empowering colleagues and boards alike to establish a sustainable digital museum practice.
Antje has been trained as an art historian at the universities of Göttingen, Rome and Hamburg and has been a lecturer on digital strategy and museum practice at the universities of Hamburg, Freiburg/Breisgau and Krems (AUT).
Smash the Singular!
Finding new ways of working together — with communities, within our organisations, with interdisciplinary teams and across museums. How can we make this happen while diversifying access to and perspectives on museum’s digital collections? With the NEO Collections project three very different museums started by using the digital space to connect with “heavy users”, talk to them and learn from them, or start a conversation in an international network of “critical friends.” In our talk we’ll share our experiences of co-creating digital prototypes with different formats of digital residencies and fellowships and how this impacts how we transform our organisations.
