Christine Braun

Christine Braun is the Head of Collections/Senior Registrar at the McMichael Canadian Art Collection, joining the team in 2024. Previously she held a number of positions in the Collections and Exhibitions department of the Art Gallery of Hamilton for over 20 years, with her last role being the Lead of Collections.

Christine has a wide range of experience in all areas of collections and information management as well as exhibition coordination and curatorial research/writing.  She is a graduate of the Art History programs at McMaster University (BA Hons) and the University of Toronto (MA).

Digital DIY: Interpreting The Digitization Process

Digitization is a vital component of present-day collections care, but for some institutions, it’s a responsibility that can feel daunting. Limited resources and staff capacity often make it difficult to know where to begin, particularly when trying to design projects that meaningfully serve the information needs of diverse audiences. This presentation aims to demystify the digitization process by highlighting how institutions can adopt a DIY approach while still balancing a commitment to collections management and digital best practices. Drawing from the Art Gallery of Hamilton’s 2022-2024 digitization programme, this presentation will explore a range of activities that grew from this intention, including the development of a community-focused digitization lab and rotating exhibition Pigment to Pixel.
