Dave Patten is Head of New Media at The Science Museum, London, where his role includes managing all aspects of new media and AV, from conceptual design, prototyping and production to project managing external developers and production companies. He has a background in electronics and computer science, and has worked at the Science Museum for over 30 years, developing exhibitions and leading development teams.
He developed the technical systems for the Science Museum’s Wellcome Wing and Dana Centre, which opened in 2000 and 2004 respectively. Recent work includes overseeing the digital experiences in the museum’s new Medicine Galleries and an audio trail based at the National Railway Museum.
Holo-MUSEUM, a creative and collaborative model for museums to enter the Metaverse
Perception and partner museums, Imperial War Museums and Science Museum Group, are set to discuss the Holo-MUSEUM project. The discussion will centre around the collaborative model that the Holo-MUSEUM project has facilitated since its release in October 2021.
Holo-MUSEUM has been made available to upwards of 100 schools in the United Kingdom and Thailand with the goal of reaching schools and museumgoers globally. Panelists are invited to explore their initial findings of the technology, the collaborative relationship between technology and museums, and further examine funding hurdles which prevent digitisation in arts and history sectors, worldwide
