Dr Tina Eyre

Tina is Curator of Oxford Science at Oxford’s History of Science Museum. She is interested in contemporary collecting around science and health, working with communities to decolonise collections, and the ethical issues that arise around this. Her previous project involved collecting objects and stories from the COVID-19 pandemic. It uncovered themes of inequality and community and raised interesting questions about what themes should be covered in a history of science museum and about when is the right time to look at the pandemic through the lens of history.

Questions of Digital Community Interpretation

Hear about our journey to incorporate global community perspectives into digital collections at the History of Science Museum. Working with volunteers on a participatory research project (as part of MultakaOxford), staff and volunteers have formed a team to explore themes of global health in the museum’s collections. Volunteers are contributing their skills and experience, while developing new skills. To embed the work throughout the digital museum required changing the museum’s established ways of working and thinking. We will share our learnings, challenges, questions and tips as well as our successes.
