Emily Taylor

Emily Taylor has worked in museum informal education, interactive gallery curation and audience research with the Science Museum Group at the National Railway Museum, York and Science Museum, London. Joining the Natural History’s National Programmes Team last year, Emily’s role focusses on coordinating programmes to support the museum to reach wider audiences across the UK and create advocates for the planet.

Emily has been working closely on Explore: Urban nature, aiming to inspire the next generation to look closer at nature on their doorstep and see their local environment from a new perspective. Working with passionate museum partners across the sector to engage local communities and expand the reach of fantastic programmes like Explore: Urban Nature is a highlight of her work. Emily has always grown up appreciating the natural world and relishes opportunities to get outdoors and explore!

Nature on your doorstep: place-based approaches to reach new audiences

Over three years, the Natural History Museum, London, worked with 12 partners across the UK to connect over 20,000 young people with nature.

‘Explore: Urban Nature’ was an ambitious programme that used outdoor learning through scientific work to inspire young people to take action for nature.

Here, NHM and three project partners National Museums Northern Ireland, RSPB Glasgow, and Nottingham City Museums share how they approached place-based programming to reach wider audiences and ensure meaningful engagement.
