Gabrielle Macbeth

Gabrielle Macbeth’s primary role at Glasgow Women’s Library is to deliver the volunteering programme, involving 80 volunteers each year in the planning and delivery of GWL’s activities. Since 2015 she has also been one of GWL’s Green Champions, taking the lead with other colleagues on monitoring and reducing carbon emissions, increasing biodiversity, and championing women’s important role in environmental activism through events and collections.

Towards a Net Zero Museum

Glasgow Women’s Library is the only Accredited Museum to women’s history in the UK, and one of the first museums in Scotland to be aiming to be operational net zero by 2030. This involves retrofitting a B Listed building and installing renewables, with lots of learning along the way for a team with no prior knowledge or expertise. Gabrielle will share how they went to learning how to monitor carbon emissions, to creating a net-zero action plan, fundraising, and overseeing the retrofit works.
