Jennifer Pullar is the Science Communications Manager at the Natural History Museum has worked with the Digital Collections for the last nine years. She has witnessed a step change in how technology can help accelerate unlocking vital museum information to tackle some of the biggest problems for humanity and the planet. Jennifer’s creative background in Fine Art and fascination with the links between Art and Science make her passionate to tell visual stories that make people feel connected to nature.

A decade of data to save our planet

The Natural History Museum’s collection contains over 80 million items, spanning the 4.56-billion-year history of life on Earth. Releasing this collection online shares vital data that shows how our world has changed over time and indicates how we can safeguard our planet for the future.

Over the last decade, we have digitised six million specimens and released these via the Museum’s Data Portal. Join Jennifer Pullar as she shares how vital this data is for transforming the efficiency and scope of what is possible in science, whether that’s working to prevent future pandemics or understanding the impact of climate change – and what’s next for the UK as the national programme DiSSCo UK takes on digitisation of the UK natural science collections.
