Jumana Hokan

Jumana Hokan is the community outreach and learning facilitator for MultakaOxford based at the Pitt Rivers Museum.

She is a Syrian British artist with an extensive background in working in community engagement and creative learning and participation in museums, galleries and cultural organisations both in and outside of the UK.

Complexities and Conversations

Multaka is an Arabic word that means ‘meeting point’. MultakaOxford is a person and community led project based at the Pitt Rivers Museum and History of Science Museum, part of the Oxford University Gardens, Libraries and Museums. The project focuses on the important social role of museums and collections and works collaboratively with people across Oxfordshire, proactively enabling access to people who are settling in the region through forced displacement. The project’s main aims focus on opportunities for intercultural dialogue and fearless expression of identity in the museums and beyond. The project’s core aims include democratising collections’ displays and interpretation, and their approaches to public and community engagement.
