Laurie Kilgour-Walsh has been the Senior Manager, Education at the Art Gallery of Hamilton (in Ontario, Canada) since 2006.
With over 16 years experience in gallery education, her work includes overseeing the educational design, implementation and research in programs for a range of audiences including students, adults and persons with dementia and disabilities, and she is currently developing a larger mandate for arts and wellness within the AGH’s public program that serves audiences with a range of abilities and interests.
She was the lead in the inception of Artful Moments at the AGH, which began in 2009, and continues to lead that program through a number of diverse initiatives in support of best practices in gallery-based dementia care. She is a practicing artist and an avid museum-visitor.
We all lived with a range of feelings during a time of stay at home orders, but for some of our community’s more vulnerable people, it was a time of isolation. Where we once thought zoom was a short-term, stop-gap measure to continue programming, we have learned that it can be so much more. Artful Moments is a program that began by providing persons with dementia with opportunities to experience art and shared experiences with loved ones, and has since grown to include many audiences and online delivery as well as in-galley programs. We will share our findings with you.
