Maria Chiara Ciaccheri

Maria Chiara Ciaccheri is an independent consultant, trainer, and researcher, author of ‘Museum Accessibility by Design: A Systemic Approach to Organizational Change’ (Bloomsbury, 2022), published by the American Alliance of Museums. With an MA in Learning and Visitor Studies from the University of Leicester and extensive research experience in the US, she works with museums, regional authorities, organizations, and universities in Italy, reframing accessibility as a systemic, human-centered practice within museums.

Embedded Futures: How Museums Will Transform From Within

Imagine a museum where anyone can enter, feel part of it, and find their space. Experiences are fluid and welcoming, yet also challenging and provocative, shaped not only around needs but around a spectrum of desires and motivations. Participation emerges from the collective work of staff – from directors to curators, digital strategists to mediators – all sharing responsibility for access, engagement, and inclusion. Over time, these principles become so embedded they no longer need to be named. This talk explores how small shifts in mindset and practice can spark radical transformation, creating museums that are open, inventive, and deeply human.
