Mart Alaru

Mart Alaru is a Junior Researcher in the Estonian National Museum, organising digital heritage remix interventions to activate both audience creativity and the creative potential of digital heritage. His scholarly backround and approach to the digital heritage field is in ethnology, which he applies to studying how people interact with digital heritage and the infrastructures, technologies and interventions that bring it forth.

Activating creativity through digital heritage interventions

One thing that I have learned during my studies is that there are a lot of people out there on the lookout for a creative challenge. Offering that challenge in a digital heritage framing can tap into the creative potential of digital heritage, opening up new avenues of digital heritage development and use – both technologically and socially. In this presentation, I am going to talk about how we can make digital heritage meet people halfway in their creative endeavors, be it through interesting challenges/interventions, meaning-making or doing pop-up workshops at community events.
