Maya Carmody

Maya Carmody (she/her) has a background in museums, education, and civic engagement across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. Before joining Museums Victoria, she worked in public engagement and education roles at New Zealand Parliament and Museums Wellington. Maya is passionate about creating accessible and engaging experiences that connect people with history, culture and ideas. At Museums Victoria, she develops public programs and events that inspire curiosity, encourage lifelong learning, and foster meaningful connections between audiences and the museum.

How do you take a boring* pile of ancient objects from the other side of the world and make visitors respond passionately and creatively?

This presentation will show how Melbourne Museum intentionally built creativity into its presentation of the touring exhibition Treasures of the Viking Age: The Galloway Hoard. Through exhibition design, adult-focused exhibition activities, and school programs, the speakers will show you how they created opportunities for creativity from both visitors and staff.
