Megan Dickerson is the creative director of Birch Aquarium at Scripps’ permanent and changing exhibit galleries and non-living collections.
Dickerson and her team use human-centered design to continuously iterate and improve the Aquarium’s “human habitats,” pushing the boundaries of existing aquarium/science center paradigms.
In her prior role as Director of Exhibitions at The New Children’s Museum, Megan brought artists and the community together to develop emergent, room-sized artworks for a family audience.
In her public art practice, under the banner of play(space), Megan facilitates happenings ranging from the Bumpkin Art Encampment, an annual artist take-over in Boston Harbor, to “smellovision” film screenings.
At the core of Megan’s approach to design is playwork: the co-creation of flexible, adaptable spaces where people can play in the ways in which they want and need to.
