Sarah Elliott

Building on 21 years of hands-on teaching experience in museum galleries and labs, Sarah Elliott, Coordinator of Digital Content & Experiences at ROM (Royal Ontario Museum), understands that engagement and interactivity are key to digital learning. Her passion for technology has encouraged her to investigate the ways that digital tools can create bridges to connect diverse audiences to museum learning. Her most recent work includes the use of Minecraft as a platform for Virtual Museum Visits, using interactive storytelling to discuss themes of community, cultural respect, and the cascading impacts of individual actions.

Hacking the ROM with Scratch, Twine, and Minecraft

Discover how ROM (Royal Ontario Museum) has been using Minecraft, integrating Indigenous Knowledges, and employing coding platforms to create interactive, dynamic learning programs that allow students across Ontario to connect with museum topics and collections in exciting new ways. ROM Minecraft uses the world’s most popular video game to create custom worlds that allow students to engage and explore museum topics and content in an immersive 3D world. In Hack the ROM, students are inspired by Indigenous Artistic and Cultural Belongings to program their own games or digital projects by coding with Scratch and Twine.
