Sarah Marden

Sarah Marden is the Curator of Natural History at The Box. In her role she finds ways of using historic collections to inspire hope in the climate emergency.

She was the lead curator of the exhibition Planet Ocean where she worked in collaboration with local partners to highlight initiatives across the South West that have a global impact in safeguarding the sea.

Sarah previously worked for the National Trust while completing her PhD that uncovered hidden histories of natural history collections in country houses.

Planet Ocean: championing local climate action

Planet Ocean at The Box is a collaborative exhibition that explores how local climate action has significance on a global scale. Working with a range of partners including marine research institutions, conservation charities, local CIC’s and artists, Planet Ocean celebrates how Plymouth’s identity as Britain’s Ocean City gives us a unique opportunity to safeguard the ocean and make a positive difference in the climate emergency. This exhibition uses sustainable materials, historic collections and contemporary art to tell the story of the most pressing issue of our age and inspire visitors to play a part in a sustainable future for the planet.
