Saskia Scott

Saskia Scott is a passionate advocate for artists and audiences based in Kamberri/Canberra, Australia.

Since September 2022, Saskia has worked as the Public Programs Convenor at the National Gallery of Australia, where she has developed and delivered a diverse range of public programs to engage adult audiences with art, artists and ideas both at the Gallery and online.

In addition to working as an independent curator and arts writer, Saskia’s previously positions include Senior Gallery Coordinator of the School of Art and Design Gallery at the Australian National Gallery, Manager of Museum Engagement at the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House and Gallery Coordinator for the Women’s and Children’s Hospital Foundation in Tarntanya/Adelaide.

Saskia has a Graduate Certificate in Art History and a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Politics and Spanish from the University of Adelaide, as well as a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Ceramics) from the University of South Australia.

Making artist practices accessible to audiences of different ages and abilities

Using the Creative Conversations series as a case study, staff from the Learning Department at the National Gallery of Australia will share their approach to designing multiple entry points into an artist’s practice for audiences of different ages and abilities.

Structured around an artist talk followed by an artist-led workshop, Creative Conversations is designed to provide audiences the opportunity to experiment with materials as a way of learning about an artist’s practice. Through a process of iteration, Saskia Scott and Emily Casey have refined their approach to centring the needs of families and audiences with lived experience of disability. They will share their key considerations for ensuring that people of different ages and abilities can choose to engage at different levels.
