Selin Kahramanoğlu

Selin Kahramanoğlu is a Turkish-Canadian museum and archives professional, researcher, artist, and writer.

Her curatorial work focuses on representing authentic identity and intersectionality, highlighting invisible minorities, mentorship, and exploring mental health.

She frequently works with mixed collections and sensitive materials, primarily doing material culture research and interpretation for community engagement, whether it be through exhibitions, presentations, or publications. She is the current Collections & Gallery Manager at the Toronto Holocaust Museum.

Working with Traumatic Materials

At any GLAM institution, professionals may be working with materials that are traumatic in subject matter. With prolonged and repetitive exposure to challenging work, oftentimes information users do not realize its effects on mental health, and we overlook our own needs. This presentation tells the different ways that traumatic materials can manifest in our work, and the variety of responses that can arise from our colleagues.
