Stefanie Holzheu

Stefanie Holzheu is a project manager and educator working in future-oriented education. She leads the project “Mobiles Futurium” at the Futurium in Berlin, where she develops and implements educational formats that promote future-shaping skills—particularly for young people, who are encouraged to actively engage with questions about the future. Her work focuses on practical, participatory approaches that connect social, technological and environmental issues to everyday life and strengthen participation. She has extensive experience in school outreach, workshop facilitation and collaboration with partner institutions. In addition to her project work, she teaches university-level courses on design and sustainability. Her approach combines clear structure, critical reflection and creative methods to support thoughtful engagement with possible futures.

Thinking Futures, Making Futures

What happens when museums stop talking about the future—and invite their audiences to design it? The Mobile Futurium explores this idea through futures workshops that take place directly in schools. Using futures thinking as a method—combining scenario thinking with maker-based activities—students imagine futures and turn their ideas into tangible prototypes. In this talk, we share how “futures literacies” can be developed through creative, hands-on exploration. Using the Mobile Futurium as a case study, the presentation shows how futures methods can spark curiosity, empower youth voices and open new conversations about societal change far beyond museum walls.
