Tracy Jenkins

Tracy Jenkins first became involved with Art UK after answering an advert for volunteer photographers in early 2018, little knowing then that a year later she would be working for Art UK and training volunteers around the country herself. After a career in Children’s Services and over 35 years as a Youth Worker and Partnership Manager, Tracy is amazed that life has taken a right turn into the arts field. She continues to volunteer as a photographer for the project, capturing public art in Essex, Cornwall, Suffolk, Kent, and English Heritage sites in London.

Making Permanent the Impermanent; Using Digital to Preserve Fleeting Heritage

Public murals are inherently impermanent. Whether through intentional human removal or unintentional environmental damage, their place in a civic landscape is fleeting. Their existence, though, reflects the artistic, social, environmental and economic landscape of a place in time. Their unrecorded loss is a loss of an integral part of our history. How can digital enable us to record these otherwise transient aspects of our heritage? Unintentionally, Art UK and Leeds Museums and Galleries have been working on adjacent and complimentary projects exploring just this.
