Head of Learning and Engagement
Manchester Museum

At Manchester Museum we aim to build better understanding between cultures and a more sustainable world. We are currently working on our exciting major £14 million capital development project, Hello Future. This transformation, driven by social purpose, aims to become the UK’s most imaginative, inclusive and caring museum. Wendy Gallagher was appointed as Head of Learning and Engagement at Manchester Museum in April 2018. This role is key to driving forward the future of education and environmental action on the top floor of the museum; a space where we do things differently. This transformation, driven by social purpose aims to become a place for broader connectivity and early-idea exploration. Working with a range of partners and funders we will provide those entrepreneurial paths out, as ideas seeded in this incubation space grow beyond what the shared space can offer.

Where we do things differently

The top floor is a space in Manchester Museum for people to come together to learn, share ideas, build community and make plans. You’ll find education groups, charities, artists, writers, social enterprises, staff and students co-working and collaborating here, with a shared commitment to social and environmental justice. It will include a teaching studio, greenhouse, therapy room, artist studios, pop-up exhibition and events space and co-working hub. Providing young people with unique spaces to learn, explore and take action. Making sure they have paid opportunities, including apprenticeships, internships and paid work placements, across all departments. They are changing museums for the future.
