Communities and Access Learning Coordinator
National Galleries of Scotland

Maro Psyrra is part of the Learning & Engagement team at the National Galleries of Scotland where she develops programmes and resources with and for adults with additional support needs and people who may experience isolation or exclusion, supporting them to explore their national art collection and connect with their own creativity.

The National Galleries of Scotland (NGS) cares for, develops, researches, and displays Scotland’s national collection of Scottish and international art.

The Galleries are in Edinburgh, and through a varied programme in gallery, online and in the community, we aim to engage with the broadest possible public. We are passionate about art and its power to move, to inspire, and to connect with people of all ages and backgrounds.

Maro Psyrra will be speaking at the Museum Social Impact Summit 2024 :

Supporting People with Lived Experience of Alcohol-related Harm

Can an art gallery provide a safe space for people with lived experience of alcohol-related harm? Using our own project as a case study, we will describe a unique long-term partnership between the National Galleries of Scotland and homelessness charity Rowan Alba. We will show how we have successfully opened up the gallery to some of the most excluded and disadvantaged members of society who have previously rejected other services and interventions.
