Chelsea Bracci

Chelsea Bracci is the Director of Digital Projects at the Tenement Museum. In this role Chelsea is responsible for the coordination and execution of museum-wide digital initiatives, both operational and interpretive, with a focus on how digital can enhance the Museum’s storytelling and deepen the visitor experience.

Chelsea has an MA in Museum Studies from John’s Hopkins University and has worked within museums and archives for over a decade, including roles at The American Jewish Historical Society, Maryland Center for History and Culture, and as a Fellow at The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.

Tangible Storytelling – Lighter touch tech at New York City’s Tenement Museum

When a once ground-breaking interactive began to progressively disintegrate, the Tenement Museum invited Surface Impression to help shape its replacement. With a focus on sustainability, we weren’t looking to start from scratch, but to update and extend a much-loved experience. Working within the realities of a busy museum and a building full of stories—while also preparing for future expansion—we aimed to deliver sophisticated interaction with the lightest touch. It wasn’t an easy journey, and it took a lot of persistence, but close collaboration and creative problem-solving led to a revitalised experience and an innovation framework ready for what comes next.
