Amy Fox is a museum professional who has worked at the intersection of digital and physical spaces for twenty years. With a career spanning the early days of microblogging, before Twitter supported links and images to the current video-centric spaces, she aims to embrace digital media to connect audiences, no matter where they live, with museum collections and spaces online. Before landing at the Smithsonian American Art Museum where she has been for nine years, Amy worked at the Walker Art Center, American Craft Council, and Forecast Public Art/Public Art Review. She is entirely too online but is unashamed of her daily screen time.
Amy Fox is speaking at the Museum Social Media Summit 2025 :
What happens when you combine five museums, three viral nail artists, and one creative film company? You learn how to communicate—differently. At the world’s largest museum, education, and research complex, a pilot campaign merged museum collections with the power of social-first video to strategically combine and expand audiences.
This pilot put the Smithsonian lens on the rich history of nail art—rooted in Black culture, evolved in Asian and Asian American-owned salons, and finding new canvases in Indigenous communities.
Learn our tactics to make these expansive collaborations happen, and how you can do it too!
