Chris Cloud is the Director of Marketing at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, and has a passion for connecting people and ideas.
Previously the Director of Marketing and Communications at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego. And before that the first Marketing Content Director at the immersive art experience Meow Wolf in Santa Fe, New Mexico and the Social Media and Community Manager at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Outside of being the hype person for dope art institutions, Cloud is an artist and culture maker himself. He was a fixture in the creative milieu of Minneapolis. He was the co-founder of MPLS.TV, an online Do-It-Together content network, MPLSzine, a submissions-based digital publication, and Pizza Camp, an overnight camp for pizza loving adults. He also served as an adjunct faculty member at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design where he taught “Creating and Running a Business” in the Arts Entrepreneurship program.
Cloud has attended numerous art residencies and have staged artistic interventions at the Walker Art Center (as part of MN Artists Presents), Ordinary Projects in Chicago, Illinois, and had his first solo museum exhibition at the Rochester Art Center in Rochester, MN.
Although a first time speaker at MuseumNext, Chris Cloud has previously spoken at the Museum Computer Network, AIGA Design, and Awwwards Conferences and has given a TEDx Talk on the power of collaboration.
Rebranding Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego
The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) recently opened their expanded flagship campus on the Pacific coast in La Jolla. With one museum with two locations, one coastal and one urban, MCASD’s brand and audience engagement strategy was due for an expansion of sorts as well.
During this talk, you’ll hear from their past Director of Communications and Marketing (now at MCA Chicago), MCASD’s web development partner Perry Garvin Studio, and MCASD’s graphic design partner Happening Studio on how they collaborated on co-developing an Audience-forward brand in a new era of museums.
