Marie Zachger

Marie Zachger was born in Hamburg, Germany. Studied history and politics at the University of Bremen with the focus on Public History. At the Neuengamme concentration camp memorial she works in public relations and produces content for the different social media channels of the memorial and works on new strategies to reach a digital audience.

How do we keep Holocaust memory alive and relevant for younger generations? Eighty years after WWII, this question is more urgent than ever, as survivors pass away and voices questioning the work of memorials grow louder. To meet these challenges, the Neuengamme Concentration Camp Memorial became the first worldwide to use TikTok for educational purposes, collaborating with survivors and institutions to share their stories online. The platform has made the history of KZ Neuengamme accessible to a broader audience, while also confronting the memorial with new opportunities, responsibilities, and challenges.
